CR2477 battery: equivalents & specs

The CR2477 is the heavyweight of standard coin cells: 3 volts, 24.5 mm across, 7.7 mm tall and a full 1000 mAh. It exists for devices that must run for years unattended, such as asset trackers, utility meters, industrial sensors and Bluetooth beacons.

  • CR2450: Shorter sibling at 5 mm and about 600 mAh, far more common in retail.

Buying and replacement notes

A gigawatt of standby time in a coin: at typical beacon drains of 10 to 20 microamps average, a CR2477 runs five years or more. It is rarely sold in supermarkets, so order from electronics distributors and prefer Panasonic or Renata. Like the CR2450, a flanged N variant exists for holders that key on the lip; match what came out.

Frequently asked questions

Can a CR2450 substitute for a CR2477?
Physically it will drop into some holders since the diameter matches, but at 5.0 mm against 7.7 mm it usually fails to reach both contacts. Where it does connect, expect roughly 60 percent of the runtime. Devices sized for the CR2477 should get the real thing.
What devices use a CR2477?
Long-deployment electronics: BLE beacons, cold-chain temperature loggers, asset tags, utility and parking meters, and industrial sensors. Consumer sightings are rarer, mainly extended-run flameless candles and some outdoor timers.
How long can a CR2477 realistically last?
At a 15 microamp average drain, its 1000 mAh works out to over seven years, and lithium's 1 percent annual self-discharge barely dents that. Real deployments budget five years to leave margin for radio bursts and temperature swings.
