CR1632 battery: equivalents & specs

The CR1632 is a 3 volt lithium coin cell, 16 mm across and a chunky 3.2 mm thick, packing 125 to 140 mAh. It is the high-capacity member of the 16 mm family, widely used in smart key fobs, Tile-style trackers and tire pressure sensors.

Buying and replacement notes

Modern proximity fobs that must listen continuously favor this cell over the thinner 16 mm sizes, and many Toyota, Kia and Hyundai smart keys specify it. It matches the CR2032's 3.2 mm height in a smaller diameter, and holds roughly 60 percent of its capacity. The two are not interchangeable; a 1632 rattles hopelessly in a 2032 holder.

⚠️ Keep away from children. Swallowed button batteries, especially 20 mm lithium coins, cause severe injury within hours. If a child swallows one, call the 24/7 National Battery Ingestion Hotline (US) at 800-498-8666 or poison control at 800-222-1222 immediately. What every parent should know.

Frequently asked questions

Can a CR2032 replace a CR1632?
No. Both are 3.2 mm thick 3 V lithium cells, but the CR2032 is 20 mm across against the CR1632's 16 mm. It will not fit the smaller holder, and the CR1632 makes no reliable contact in the larger one. Match the code exactly.
What uses a CR1632 battery?
Smart key fobs from Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, Subaru and others, older Tile trackers, tire pressure monitoring sensors and some glucose meters. Its 130-ish mAh suits devices that listen or measure continuously rather than only transmitting on a button press.
How long does a CR1632 last in a smart key?
One to two years is typical for proximity keys, which wake frequently to listen for the car. Storing spare keys away from the vehicle, or in a metal tin, stops them polling and stretches their batteries considerably.
