CR1620 battery: equivalents & specs

The CR1620 is a 3 volt lithium coin cell measuring 16 mm across and 2 mm thick, with 75 to 78 mAh. It is a standard remote key battery for many Toyota, Mazda and Nissan fobs and a common fitment in digital watches and compact remotes.

  • CR1616: Thinner 1.6 mm sibling with about 55 mAh; the two are only swappable when the holder allows.

Buying and replacement notes

The CR1620 hits a sweet spot for transmit-only fobs: enough capacity for two-plus years of clicking in a case still slim enough for a flip key. When replacing, note the orientation stamped in the fob housing; reversed coin cells are the top cause of dead-after-repair remotes. Panasonic, Murata, Duracell (DL1620) and Energizer (ECR1620) versions are identical in spec.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between CR1620 and CR1616?
Height and capacity. Both are 16 mm wide 3 V lithium cells, but the CR1620 is 2.0 mm tall with about 76 mAh while the CR1616 is 1.6 mm with about 55 mAh. Fobs are molded for one or the other; check the old cell before buying.
Which cars use a CR1620 fob battery?
Plenty of 2000s and 2010s Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and Mitsubishi remotes, among others. The only reliable check is the marking on the cell inside the fob, since manufacturers vary sizes across model years and trim levels of the same vehicle.
How long should a CR1620 last in a remote?
Two to three years with normal use, since the fob only draws current while transmitting. Cold weather temporarily cuts output, so a marginal cell often fails first in winter. Replace when range shrinks rather than waiting for total failure.
