Button alkaline (LR / AG)

LR754 battery: equivalents & specs

The LR754 is a 1.5 volt alkaline button cell, 7.9 mm across and a relatively tall 5.4 mm, also known as AG5, LR48 or 193. The silver-oxide SR754, sold as the 393 or 309, is dimensionally identical and delivers more capacity with steadier voltage.

Buying and replacement notes

The tall, narrow AG5 shows up in small medical devices, penlights and some larger watch movements. Its extra height gives it more capacity than the flatter AG cells, around 60 mAh. The silver-oxide 393 raises that to roughly 75 to 80 mAh and keeps output flat, which matters for instruments that take readings. Match the height carefully: the AG5 shares its 7.9 mm diameter with four other AG sizes.

⚠️ Keep away from children. Swallowed button batteries, especially 20 mm lithium coins, cause severe injury within hours. If a child swallows one, call the 24/7 National Battery Ingestion Hotline (US) at 800-498-8666 or poison control at 800-222-1222 immediately. What every parent should know.

Frequently asked questions

What batteries are interchangeable with AG5?
LR754, LR48, L754 and 193 are the same 1.5 V alkaline cell at 7.9 x 5.4 mm. The silver-oxide 393 (SR754W) and 309 (SR754SW) match the size exactly and swap in directly, with about 25 percent more capacity and a flat 1.55 V output.
Is the 393 battery the same as the LR754?
Same dimensions, different chemistry. The 393 is the high-drain silver-oxide SR754W; the LR754 is alkaline. Devices accept either, but the 393 lasts longer and holds voltage. The low-drain 309 (SR754SW) is the variant meant for simple analog watches.
Why does diameter alone not identify this battery?
Because 7.9 mm is the most crowded button-cell diameter: AG2, AG3, AG5 and AG11 all share it and differ only in height from 2.1 to 5.4 mm. Measure thickness with the old cell out, or match the code printed on it, before ordering a replacement.
