Button alkaline (LR / AG)

LR621 battery: equivalents & specs

The LR621 is a tiny 1.5 volt alkaline button cell, 6.8 mm across and 2.1 mm tall, sold under the codes AG1, LR60 and 164. Its silver-oxide twin is the SR621SW, better known as the 364, one of the most common small watch batteries in the world.

Buying and replacement notes

You will mostly meet the AG1 as the factory cell inside inexpensive watches. Battery counters rarely stock the alkaline version at all; they carry the 364 because nearly everyone replacing this size is servicing a watch. Fit the 364 and you get two to three years of accurate running instead of about a year with declining accuracy from the alkaline.

⚠️ Keep away from children. Swallowed button batteries, especially 20 mm lithium coins, cause severe injury within hours. If a child swallows one, call the 24/7 National Battery Ingestion Hotline (US) at 800-498-8666 or poison control at 800-222-1222 immediately. What every parent should know.

Frequently asked questions

What battery is equivalent to AG1?
AG1, LR621, LR60, L621 and 164 all name the same 1.5 V alkaline cell, 6.8 mm wide and 2.1 mm tall. The silver-oxide 364 (SR621SW) and 363 (SR621W) share the same dimensions and replace it directly, with better voltage stability.
Is the 364 a direct replacement for the LR621?
Yes. The 364 is the silver-oxide SR621SW in the identical 6.8 x 2.1 mm case. It runs at 1.55 V with a flat discharge curve and carries around 20 mAh, so a watch keeps time accurately for years instead of months.
How long does an AG1 last in a watch?
Typically 8 to 14 months in a basic analog watch, with timekeeping drifting as the voltage falls. A silver-oxide 364 in the same watch usually runs two to three years. If your watch dies quickly after every battery change, someone is probably fitting alkaline cells.
