Button alkaline (LR / AG)

LR41 battery: equivalents & specs

The LR41 is a small 1.5 volt alkaline button cell, 7.9 mm across and 3.6 mm tall, best known as the digital thermometer battery. AG3, LR736 and 192 are the same cell. The silver-oxide SR41, sold as 392 or 384, fits identically and lasts longer.

Buying and replacement notes

Most household digital thermometers take one or two LR41 cells, and the cheap multi-packs sold as AG3 work fine for that job. Where the device matters, such as a watch or a medical meter, choose the silver-oxide 392 instead. It has roughly 45 mAh against the alkaline's 30, and its flat 1.55 V discharge keeps readings stable. Old alkaline button cells are also more prone to leaking, which corrodes thermometer contacts.

Frequently asked questions

What battery replaces an LR41?
Any cell marked AG3, LR736, L736, 192 or G3 is the identical 1.5 V alkaline battery. The silver-oxide 392 (SR41W) or 384 (SR41SW) is the same 7.9 x 3.6 mm size and works in the same devices with longer life and steadier voltage.
Is the LR41 the right battery for a digital thermometer?
Usually yes. Most stick-style digital thermometers take one or two LR41 cells. Check the compartment or manual to confirm; a few models use the thinner LR736 variants or the larger LR44. The silver-oxide 392 also works and typically lasts longer between changes.
LR41 versus 392: which should I buy?
The 392 is silver oxide, the LR41 alkaline, in the same size. The 392 holds 1.55 V nearly to the end and carries about 50 percent more capacity, so it wins for watches and meters. The LR41 is cheaper in multi-packs and fine for thermometers and toys.
