CR3032 battery: equivalents & specs

The CR3032 is an oversized 3 volt lithium coin cell, 30 mm across and 3.2 mm thick, holding 500 to 560 mAh. Think of it as a CR2032 scaled up by 50 percent in diameter; it appears in older garage remotes, large-format remotes and backup boards.

  • CR2450: Similar capacity class in a narrower, thicker package; the two do not share holders.

Buying and replacement notes

This size peaked decades ago and modern designs rarely adopt it, but plenty of installed garage openers and industrial boards still take it. Its 30 mm diameter is unmistakable next to a CR2032, so misordering is rare once you have the old cell in hand. Panasonic and Renata continue production; expect to buy online.

⚠️ Keep away from children. Swallowed button batteries, especially 20 mm lithium coins, cause severe injury within hours. If a child swallows one, call the 24/7 National Battery Ingestion Hotline (US) at 800-498-8666 or poison control at 800-222-1222 immediately. What every parent should know.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CR3032 just a bigger CR2032?
Effectively yes: same 3 V lithium chemistry and 3.2 mm height, but 30 mm across instead of 20, which more than doubles the capacity to around 530 mAh. The two fit completely different holders, so the resemblance in names does not make them substitutes.
What still uses the CR3032?
Mostly legacy equipment: older Chamberlain and LiftMaster-era garage remotes, some large-format car remotes from the 1990s and 2000s, and memory backup positions on industrial boards. New consumer designs favor the CR2450 and CR2477 instead.
Where can I buy a CR3032?
Electronics distributors, battery specialist sites and large online marketplaces carry Panasonic and Renata stock. Pharmacies rarely do. Check the date stamp when it arrives; slow-turnover sizes are the ones most likely to have aged on a shelf.
