CR2354 battery: equivalents & specs

The CR2354 is a tall 3 volt lithium coin cell, 23 mm across and 5.4 mm high, holding about 560 mAh. It is best known from Polar heart-rate monitors, bike computers and appliance timer-backup circuits, and it is often confused with the CR2450.

Compatible replacements

  • CR2450: Similar capacity, 1.5 mm wider and 0.4 mm shorter; NOT interchangeable, and the CR2354 has a recessed negative terminal.

⚠️ Never fit a CR2354 in a device that charges its own cell, such as a solar keyboard. Those are designed around a rechargeable ML type, and charging a primary lithium cell risks rupture.

Buying and replacement notes

The trap with this cell is the CR2450, which looks nearly identical and shares its capacity class. The CR2354 has a distinctive stepped or recessed base on the negative side, and devices designed for it use that geometry for contact. A CR2450 forced into a CR2354 holder either fails to seat or stresses the contacts. Panasonic is the reference manufacturer.

⚠️ Keep away from children. Swallowed button batteries, especially 20 mm lithium coins, cause severe injury within hours. If a child swallows one, call the 24/7 National Battery Ingestion Hotline (US) at 800-498-8666 or poison control at 800-222-1222 immediately. What every parent should know.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a CR2450 instead of a CR2354?
Not reliably. The CR2450 is 1.5 mm wider, slightly shorter, and lacks the CR2354's recessed negative face, so it commonly fails to make contact or jams the holder. Devices that specify the CR2354, like some Polar monitors, need exactly that cell.
Does a Logitech solar keyboard take a CR2354?
No. A solar keyboard charges the cell it holds, so it is built around a rechargeable type; our ML2032 record lists Logitech solar keyboards among its uses. Never fit a primary CR cell in a charging position, because charging a non-rechargeable lithium cell is a rupture hazard. Check your model's service guide.
How long does a CR2354 last?
Its 560 mAh is huge by coin cell standards. Heart-rate chest straps typically run one to two years of regular training on one, and timer-backup roles stretch to many years. Replace it when transmission dropouts start rather than at first pairing hiccups.
