Button alkaline (LR / AG)

LR936 battery: equivalents & specs

The LR936 is a 1.5 volt alkaline button cell measuring 9.5 mm across and 3.6 mm tall, also sold as AG9, LR45 or 194. The matching silver-oxide cell is the SR936, found at watch counters as the 394, with the 380 as its high-drain variant.

  • SR936 / 394: Silver-oxide equivalent (394 is the SR936SW low-drain cell, 380 the SR936W high-drain one) with about 70 mAh in the same case.

Buying and replacement notes

The AG9 is a middle child of the button-cell world: less common than the AG3 or AG13 but a regular fitment in mid-size quartz watches. As always in this family, the silver-oxide 394 is what a watchmaker will fit, and it delivers about 70 mAh at a rock-steady 1.55 V against roughly 55 mAh of sagging output from the alkaline.

⚠️ Keep away from children. Swallowed button batteries, especially 20 mm lithium coins, cause severe injury within hours. If a child swallows one, call the 24/7 National Battery Ingestion Hotline (US) at 800-498-8666 or poison control at 800-222-1222 immediately. What every parent should know.

Frequently asked questions

What replaces an AG9 battery?
LR936, LR45, L936 and 194 are the same 1.5 V alkaline cell at 9.5 x 3.6 mm. The silver-oxide 394 (SR936SW) or 380 (SR936W) is the direct same-size replacement and the better option for watches thanks to its flat discharge.
Are the 394 and 380 interchangeable?
Physically yes; both are SR936 cells at 9.5 x 3.6 mm. The 394 is the low-drain version for ordinary analog movements, while the 380 is tuned for the higher current of watches with extra functions. Fitting one in place of the other works, just with less optimal life.
How do I confirm my watch takes this size?
Open the case back and read the code on the old cell, or measure it: 9.5 mm across and 3.6 mm thick means SR936/LR936 family. Do not order by diameter alone; the 9.5 mm family also includes the thinner SR916, SR920 and SR927 sizes.
