Button alkaline (LR / AG)

LR927 battery: equivalents & specs

The LR927 is a 1.5 volt alkaline button cell, 9.5 mm wide and 2.7 mm tall, also labeled AG7, LR57 or LR926. The silver-oxide SR927 in the same size is sold as the 395 for standard watches and the 399 for high-drain movements like chronographs.

Buying and replacement notes

Like the LR920/LR921 pair, this cell carries both LR926 and LR927 markings depending on how the maker rounds the 2.6 mm nominal height; they are the same battery. Chronograph owners should note the 399 specifically: stopwatch motors pull brief high currents that the low-drain 395 and especially the alkaline AG7 handle poorly, causing resets and stalled subdials.

Frequently asked questions

What battery replaces an AG7?
LR927, LR926, LR57 and L926 are the same 1.5 V alkaline cell at 9.5 x 2.7 mm. The silver-oxide 395 (SR927SW) or 399 (SR927W) replaces it directly in the same compartment and is the correct choice for watches.
Should I buy a 395 or a 399?
Both are SR927 silver-oxide cells in the identical case. Use the 395 for plain analog watches and the 399 for chronographs or watches with alarms and lights, since it is built for higher pulse currents. In a pinch either will physically work in both.
Why did my chronograph act up on a cheap battery?
Chronograph stepper motors draw short bursts of current well above what a resting watch uses. An alkaline AG7, and to a lesser degree a low-drain 395, cannot hold voltage through those pulses, so hands stutter or the watch resets. The high-drain 399 is designed exactly for this load.
