The CR2412 is a wide, wafer-thin 3 volt lithium coin cell: 24.5 mm across and only 1.2 mm thick, holding about 100 mAh. Its main home is credit-card-style smart keys from Mercedes, Lexus and Toyota, plus some slim Casio watch modules.

Buying and replacement notes
Nothing else fits a card key: the whole point of the CR2412 is spreading capacity across width instead of height, and every other 24.5 mm cell is far thicker. Panasonic makes the reference cell. Handle it carefully during replacement; thin cells crack if flexed, and a hairline crack drains the cell within days.
⚠️ Keep away from children. Swallowed button batteries, especially 20 mm lithium coins, cause severe injury within hours. If a child swallows one, call the 24/7 National Battery Ingestion Hotline (US) at 800-498-8666 or poison control at 800-222-1222 immediately. What every parent should know.
Frequently asked questions
What uses a CR2412 battery?
Card-type smart keys from Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Toyota and a few others, along with certain ultra-thin Casio watches and card remotes. Any device shaped like a credit card that takes a coin cell almost certainly takes this one.
Is there a substitute for the CR2412?
No. At 24.5 x 1.2 mm it is the only mainstream cell of its proportions; the CR2430 and CR2450 share the diameter but are 2.5 to 4 times thicker. Panasonic's CR2412 is the standard replacement and is widely available online if not in stores.
How long does a CR2412 last in a card key?
One to two years typically. Card keys often support proximity functions that poll continuously, which taxes the modest 100 mAh. If the car offers a setting to disable keyless entry polling, using it substantially extends battery life.
