CR1/3N battery: equivalents & specs

The CR1/3N is a stubby 3 volt lithium cell, 11.6 mm across and 10.8 mm tall, rated about 170 mAh. The name means one-third of an N cell. It powers classic film cameras, Aimpoint red dot sights, dog collars and other compact optics.

Compatible replacements

  • SR44 x2: Two stacked SR44 silver cells give 3.1 V in the same 11.6 mm diameter and combined height; some devices accept either arrangement.

Buying and replacement notes

The alias 2L76 gives away its party trick: it occupies exactly the space of two stacked LR44/SR44 cells and delivers comparable voltage (3 V versus 3.1 for two silver cells). Many cameras list both options. The lithium single cell wins on shelf life and cold performance, which is why sight makers specify it, while two 357s can be easier to find locally in a pinch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use two LR44s instead of a CR1/3N?
Often yes: two stacked LR44 or SR44 cells match its 11.6 mm diameter and roughly its height, giving 3.0 to 3.1 V. Cameras usually accept this happily. For red dot sights and cold-weather gear, the lithium cell's stability and 10-year shelf life make it the better fit.
What does CR1/3N mean?
It is one-third the height of an N-size cell, in lithium chemistry. IEC calls it CR11108. Duracell sells it as DL1/3N, and the 2L76 alias marks it as the equivalent of two L76 (LR44) button cells stacked.
How long does a CR1/3N last in a red dot sight?
On middle brightness settings, Aimpoint-class sights run months to years continuously; check your model's rating. The cell's negligible self-discharge means you can also leave it installed for years as a standby optic without it dying in the safe.
