CR2032 vs CR2025
The CR2032 and CR2025 are both 3 volt lithium coin cells 20 mm across. The difference is thickness: 3.2 mm versus 2.5 mm, which gives the CR2032 about 225 mAh against the CR2025's 165. They swap only when the battery compartment tolerates the height difference.

The last two digits of each name are the height in tenths of a millimeter, so the CR2032 is 0.7 mm thicker than the CR2025. Electrically they are identical twins: 3 volts nominal, the same lithium manganese dioxide chemistry, the same 20 mm footprint. Devices choose between them purely on available space and desired battery life.
Whether they interchange depends entirely on the holder. Spring-contact compartments in remotes, scales and many key fobs will accept either cell, and fitting the thicker CR2032 where a CR2025 lived buys roughly 40 percent more runtime. Rigid compartments molded to an exact depth are less forgiving: a CR2032 forced into a tight CR2025 slot bends contacts or stops the cover latching, while a CR2025 in a CR2032 holder can sit loose, causing resets and dropouts every time the device is bumped.
If you are standing in a store deciding which to buy, the answer is printed on the battery you removed. When the old cell is missing, check the battery door or manual, and only then fall back on the swap rules. A loose fit can be shimmed for a day with a fold of aluminum foil on the negative side, but treat that strictly as a stopgap; contact pressure and safety both suffer.
